Pinot Noir San Luis Obispo Coast 2022

The 2022 San Luis Obispo Pinot Noir is a refined and expressive wine, crafted from grapes sourced from top vineyards in the Edna Valley, including Baggett, Hollister, Stornetta, Jack Ranch, and MarFarm. A dry winter and cool spring were followed by a warm summer and early September heatwave, producing ripe, concentrated flavors. Fermented separately in stainless steel open-top tanks, the wine was aged for 9 months in French oak. It presents a medium-light ruby red color, with aromas of raspberry, dark cherry, graham cracker, new leather, and black tea. On the palate, ripe cherry, plum, and strawberry flavors mingle with black olive, peppercorn, and toast, showcasing exceptional balance and a long, layered finish.
Vineyard
Grapes for this wine came from Baggett, Hollister and Stornetta vineyards on Edna Ranch, as well as, from Jack Ranch and MarFarm vineyard located in the southern portion of Edna Valley. The combination of these vineyards planted to a variety of clones including Dijon Clones 667and 943, along with California historic clones 37, HMR, and Pommard provide a range of flavors and textures that work extremely well together.
Winemaking
After a three-day cold soak, grapes were destemmed and optically sorted. All blocks were fermented separately in stainless steel open top tanks which provides more control with the different yeasts and fermentation temperatures and creates more layers in the wine. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 9 months in French oak of which 22% was new, 95% barriques and 5% puncheons.
On the Nose: Raspberry and dark cherry fruits are augmented by aromas of graham cracker, dusty earth, new leather and black tea.
Palate: Medium bodied ripe cherry, plum and strawberry fruits combine with flavors of black olive peppercorn and toast. This wine showcases exceptional balance with a long-layered finish.
